Why do we need Christmas anyway?

Did God actually say, “You shall not eat of any tree in the garden?”... So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate.
Genesis 3:1 and 6
Christmas is the best time of the year. It seems to me that there isn’t another time of the year that comes anywhere close. Christmas food, Christmas presents, Christmas family gatherings: there is so much to love about Christmas. But have you ever asked yourself why do we need Christmas anyway?
Perhaps the many who stand to profit from the commercialized aspects of the Christmas holiday would perpetuate it even if there was no religious significance to the holiday. But it is worth asking if Christmas would go on if we had no need for baby Jesus.
At the heart of the Christmas story is a baby. A baby who was born to be the salvation of the world. But why did the world need to be saved? What was this baby boy saving us from?

December 2nd

A Vague Promise

The LORD God said to the serpent... I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.
Genesis 3:14-15
After Adam and Eve sinned against the Lord, there were consequences. Sin always brings consequences. The Lord desires the good for His children, but sin has a way of tainting and perverting everything it touches. Think about it: even at Christmas you have likely experienced an awkward exchange or even a hateful exchange between family members. The root of this unpleasantness? Sin.
Adam and Eve’s sin brought them consequences. The land that Adam was to cultivate and farm would now bring forth weeds and thistles. The children that Eve was to bear, would now bring physical pain. But Adam and Eve were not the only ones to reap an unpleasant harvest from the sinful deeds they had sown. Satan himself, who showed up in this story as a serpent, he was punished by the Lord as a result of his deception and rebellion. The Lord cursed the serpent. He forced him to move around on his belly. But in the Lord’s punishment
